The 15 Most Expensive Prismatic Evolutions Cards
Getting a somewhat staggered release starting January 17, 2025, Prismatic Evolutions is looking really, really exciting. It’s the first expansion since the now legendary Evolving Skies to feature the Eevee evolutions (known as Eeveelutions).
This set is eagerly anticipated, with preorders even selling out online and at local game stores everywhere. Why? Apart from excitement for what is going to undoubtedly be an exciting set, collectors are particularly excited about just how valuable some of these cards are likely to be.
Evolving Skies is arguably the most valuable recent Pokemon set, and the epic Moonbreon card (Umbreon VMAX Alt Art) fetches insane amounts online even ungraded. Given the tie-ins between this set and that one, people are eager to see similar kinds of values for these cards.
While I don’t think these Eeveelutions will be as valuable as those we saw in Evolving Skies, they will still be highly collectible. And as we’ve seen in Surging Sparks, Scarlet & Violet era chase cards can be just as valuable as those from Sword and Shield.
All of that being said, let’s get into it below: my list of the most expensive chase cards in Prismatic Evolutions.
#1 Umbreon ex – Special Illustration Rare is the Most Expensive Prismatic Evolutions Card
There’s really no secret as to which of the cards in Prismatic Evolutions is the most expensive: it’s going to be Umbreon ex. People are already incredibly hyped about this card, sharing early prerelease prices from people who have preordered this card. I’m not exactly sure why you would do that before seeing what this card is actually worth, but it could be they are anticipating it to go up in price once the products actually hit the shelves.
Is this the next Moonbreon – the iconic card featured in Evolving Skies? I highly doubt it. It will be worth a solid chunk of change, but as I point out in my Prismatic Evolutions preview, there were a unique set of circumstances that helped drive Moonbreon to such incredible prices in that set.
That being said, we have one of the most iconic Pokemon combined with an unprecedented hype, and gorgeous artwork meaning this card is likely going to be worth hundreds of dollars even well after release.
#2 Glaceon ex Special Illustration Rare
It’s impossible to know exactly how these cards are going to stack up against one another, but I think it is highly likely the Glaceon will be the second most valuable card of the set. The Glaceon VMAX alt art from Evolving Skies holds up incredible value today, and Glaceon is arguably one of the more naturally beautiful of the Eeveelutions – something which lends itself to this card’s value. The winter theming of this card might also help its value at least initially as the set is going to be launching in the winter.
#3 Vaporeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Being one of the original 151 Pokemon, Vaporeon holds a special place in the hearts of Pokemon fans’ hearts. This card features a combination of the abstract art that is the hallmark of each of these SIR Eeveelution cards with realistic underwater effects as evidenced by the air bubles and ripples of water underneath Vaporeon’s feet.
#4 Jolteon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Both Jolteon and Vaporeon are Pokemon that did not originally appear in Evolving Skies as alternate art cards. In Prismatic Evolutions, however, they are very much an integral piece of this set. While Vaporeon’s artwork leans into the watery nature of its typing, Jolteon leans into more obscure but relevant Pokemon lore. In this case, the abstract artwork lends the feeling of movement at great speed to this card. Indeed, Jolteon here appears to be leaping amidst an urban backdrop.
That makes sense given Jolteon’s status as the fastest of all the Eeveelutions.
#5 Eevee ex – Special Illustration Rare
Eevee should be among the top chase cards in the set. What kind of value can we expect out of this card? Given the price tag associated with Pikachu ex from Surging Sparks on the secondary card market, I think we can expect a pretty high value to be ascribed to Evee. This artwork is pretty good, and I especially like the floral theming that reminds us of spring – a season undoubtedly Eevee enjoys. This also ties in with Pokemon game lore where Eevee is often found in grassy areas.
Evee is one of the most recognizeable Pokemon of them all, not far beneath Pikachu itself. I would expect this SIR treatment of it to be second or third most expensive overall.
#6 Espeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
This card just looks really solid, with Espeon descending out of the ether surrounded by strange and interesting flowers and patterns that really draw you in. Both of these cards are creative takes on this well-loved Pokemon, but Sylveon ex feels stronger and will likely be highly sought after upon Prismatic’s release.
#7 Leafeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Leafeon ex’s special illustration rare artwork would look right at home painted on a medieval church window. It’s regal and majestic form works perfectly in this verdant landscape that matches its first attack (which in English reads “Verdant Storm”). Artistically speaking this is likely the best Leafeon we’ve had in any recent set, and it could be this card would be something of a sleeper attacker in the metagame, too.
#8 Sylveon ex – Special Illustration Rare
For whatever reason, Sylveon seems to be one of the less popular Eevelutions, which is why its cards are typically of slightly less value. Perhaps that’s because Sylveon hails from a relatively later generation as opposed to most of the others. Whatever the reason, you can still bet on this card being pretty pricey – probably just not as much so as the other Eevelutions we are getting SIR versions of.
#9 Flareon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Flareon ex gives off competitive, fiery vibes that illustrate the potential power of this original Eeveelution. Despite being a solid card that would turn heads in any normal set, Prismatic Evolutions isn’t a normal set by any means, and I actually think it’s likely this card will be the least valuable of all the Eeveelutions. It’s just not got the same kind of qualities that make you stop and stare as the others.
#10 Dragapult ex – Special Illustration Rare
One that might surprise you is that Prismatic Evolutions isn’t just about Eeveelutions. Like other, similar special sets, Prismatic Evolutions also includes alternate artworks for cards from main sets who we haven’t seen receive additional rarities for. For example, Dragapult ex is getting a Special Illustration Rare card in this set, and it looks great.
Dragapult ex is a very popular deck, and players will be eager indeed to snag this card wether that’s to collect, add to their deck, or even if just to use as fodder for Regidrago VSTAR’s Apex Dragon attack.
#11 Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
Another non-Eeveelution chase card from this set is bound to be Teal Mask Ogerpon ex. Teal Mask is a big part of Scarlet & Violet’s Teal Mask DLC, and this card has seen a ton of play in the competitive. It’s the backbone for more than one competitive deck, acting as dual draw engine/engery accelerant for the likes of Raging Bolt and Regidrago VSTAR.
While we have had an SIR print of this card before, that one was very tame in comparison to the fantabulous illustration found here.
#12 Terapagos ex – Special Illustration Rare
I’m not exactly sure we needed another Terapagos ex SIR given how gorgeous and valuable the original is – but this one is just as gorgeous while at the same time a bit more up-close and personal. It will undoubtedly be one of the top chase cards from the set, if perhaps not quite as valuable as the one from Stellar Crown.
#13 Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex – Special Illustration Rare
There was a time when it felt like every deck wanted to run Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex. While not perhaps as prevalent today as it was in its prime, it’s still a broadly used card. While the original SIR we got of this card featured a relatively tame Bloodmoon, this card goes hard into the darker-side of this Pokemon. The result is a captivating artwork that just looks cool.
#14 Roaring Moon ex – Special Illustration Rare
To be honest with you, this may be one of my favorite artworks of any Pokemon card ever. I mean…saying it’s next level is almost not doing it justice. It almost looks like a woodcut print enhanced with a sketch-like drawing and imbued with incredible colors. It’s absolutely an insane rendition of this Ancient Pokemon that speaks to the very core of what the Ancient Pokemon phenomenon is all about.
You totally feel the terror of letting this Pokemon out on the unknowing world.
It’s crazy that this version of Roaring Moon ex would be so epic when the original SIR of this card released back in Paradox Rift was also quite good. But this one totally blows it out of the water making me wonder – how could so many gorgeous secret rare cards be packed into one set?
#15 Raging Bolt ex
I also prefer this set’s Raging Bolt ex SIR over the one we got in Temporal Forces. Here we get up-close-and-personal with this vengeful beast that has proven itself to be a major force in the competitive Pokemon TCG scene. This totally looks like a dragon from some mythical story printed in the same iconic and timeless fashion as the above Roaring Moon ex.
Both of these Pokemon are insanely popular in the Pokemon TCG, with Raging Bolt ex considered one of the best cards in the game, while Roaring Moon ex has been a pillar of the game since it came out, if not exactly part of the meta at the moment.
It’s clear that Prismatic Evolutions – while being predominantly an Eeveelution set – has an incredible line of gorgeous and valuable SIR cards to chase. That being said, it’s about more than just Eevee. It’s about some of the greatest hits from the past year of the Pokemon TCG. It’s a way on closing the door on one important era of the game and pointing forward to some of the exciting sets that are already teased to be coming out later in the year.
